You Are Italian Food
Comforting yet overwhelming.People love you, but sometimes you're just too much.
What Kind of Food Are You?

Am not the least bit surprised by this...I was expecting either this or Chinese/Japanese/Thai.

Of Course This Comes Along...

...right after my complaint about the NHL's new ad campaign.

http://www.livejournal.com/community/hockey/2095255.html

To somewhat quoteth Penn from Penn and Teller's Bullfunky, along comes that a-hole. Therefore, making me look like the frickin' prude I said I was not in the latest issue of My Net.

I may still not be all that fond of the NHL's new ad campaign, but at the same time, I further detest women and/or family groups that use such ad campaigns (or TV shows like Desperate Housewives) for their platforms to make the world an incredibly bland and "wholesome" place. For cripes' sake, what is it going to take to get these razzin' frazzin' fools to shut the freak up? All shows, sporting events, commercials, etc. to features Barney, the Teletubbies, the Wiggles, the Boobahs and/or all the older kid actors who looked like, two thirds of the time, they didn't/don't want to be there on those shows? Hell, that *still* might not be enough. Afterall, even the last Super Bowl halftime show with Paul McCartney somehow got a family group or two to talk the Fox executives' ears off over the phone.

Grrrrrrr...

The Net of Stormbringer: Issue #3, Volume One

The Canes had games? Oh yeah, they did tonight and last night. I'd say they looked good if I actually saw the games and not just the boxscores. But anyhoo, they did beat the Thrashers (who now have Peter Bondra in addition to Bobby Holik) and the Stanley Cup Champion Lightning, the latter quite obviously not an easy task, even if all of the vets weren't playing.

This just in as of my writing this: The Canes have apparently made their first cuts.

http://www.letsgocanes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4721

And, *gasp!*, Pavel Brendl is one of those cuts!!

Really, was that any shock? Especially after what I said here...

http://www.livejournal.com/~stormbringer10/165249.html

"But PAVEL BRENDL?! The dude who's earned the nickname Krispy Kreme for his being notoriously out of shape? Not to mention how he was given the boot by not one, not two, not three, nor four, but AT LEAST FIVE, if not MORE European teams this past "season"?!

If Pavel makes the team, I'm going to already have this season down as a bust. That is how much I don't think Brendl and his sorry a** belong on the Canes (or really, any NHL team for that matter)."

Thank you Canes for redeeming yourself and sending that guy to Lowell.

What else to talk about...oh yeah, what's up with all of the NHLers with groin injuries all of a sudden? They must be playing too much Legend of Zelda or at least listening to this...

http://www.ocremix.org/remix/OCR00209/

And stop looking at me like that...if Tripp Tracy, of all people, can talk about Sean Hill's groin being named Ginger during the intermission of one of the 2003-04 Canes games, then I can most certainly talk about the reason behind the swarm of groin injuries lately. Don't believe me about Tripp and Hilly? Ask, no, beseetch someone for a copy of the November 1st, 2003 Canes game @ Tampa Bay, and you'll see that I am honestly to goodness not kidding.

Speaking of stuff I wish I was kidding about...have any of y'all seen the new "My NHL" ad campaign? It made its debut yesterday...

http://www.livejournal.com/community/hockey/2094024.html

Basically, everything that can be said has already been said at that link. But, I have said it once and I am not afraid to say it again: The first ad in the series of five is *very reminiscent* of an ad for Tag or Axe men's body spray. The Axe and Tag campaigns are two advertisement deals that I have *really* come to hate...I am not, by any means, a prude. But, every time I see one of the Axe or Tag ads, usually during Adult Swim on Cartoon Network, I feel like I have to take a shower when all is said and done. So, I guess the ads are in a way working...but not really, since I'm not a man, nor do I have any urge to seek one wearing that Axe/Tag crap.

Anyhoo, it seems that the first of the "My NHL" ads being just like what I ranted about above is not really a coincidence...

http://www.livejournal.com/community/hockey/2094024.html?thread=14705352#t14705352

"It's funny that you say that.

Conductor, the so-called Ad Agency who came up this campaign, does not appear to be an ad agency at all.

They appear to be a marketing/branding firm (formerly called "The Aspect Group" and bought out by an English company of some nature called LB Icon).

Now, The Aspect Group seems to be best known in the industry for a job they did marketing Axe Body Spray by creating a video or computer game called Mojo something as a promotion.

The only other place I can find Conductor or The Aspect Group in marketing capacity was for an award for a Nextel promotion; for that, they were working with an ad agency called Vox Advertising.

This to me indicates that they may not have an in-house advertising agency, so it begs the question...

Who DID develop this ad?? A marketing (not advertising) executive? The NHL? Bettman himself??"

Hmmmm...veeeery interesting.

As for the "My NHL" slogan...well, at least it's not "The New NHL: It's Groin Grabbingly Good!!"

The Net of Stormbringer: Issue #2, Volume One

I'm finally back home in Bluefield, VA/WV...got back in around 11:15 last night. Even yesterday, after the Caniac Carnival, there was no rest for the wicked, for I had to help my brother and dad clean out what little was left in the old house in Wake Forest.

But, you could care less about that, I'm sure...so with further ado, here's what I did at the Carnival (and before)...

- Got a copy of the Raleigh News and Observer Sports page covering my Ronnie Francis' retirement from a friend. (BTW, if any of you have an extra N&O about Ron's retirement, please respond here!)

- Managed to grab some various goodies for my general Canes collection (among them the 2005-06 pocket schedule and mini-plans featuring Brindy).

- Got Gregg Forwerck, the Canes' photographer's attention, and got him to take a couple of shots of me, one of which will hopefully appear on the Canes' official website. We also chatted a little, and Gregg told me that the picture he took of me at the
October 28th, 2003 game vs. San Jose comes up every time he Googles his name. :D

- Found out that the worker friend I would visit at the Triangle Town Center location of The Eye every Friday night still has her job! :)

- Much to my relief, found the card and collectible tables in a niche, where I grabbed the following for my Francis collection at 50% off!!

1994-95 Stadium Club Super Teams (Topps) - #18

1995-96 Score Black Ice Artist’s Proofs (Pinnacle) - #187

1995-96 Ultra Extra Attackers (Fleer) - #6

1998-99 SP Authentic Power Shift (Upper Deck) - #14 (#321/500)

1999-2000 Be A Player Memorabilia Silver - #10 (#525/1000)

1999-2000 Revolution Ice Blue (Pacific) - #27 (#61/99)

2002-03 Upper Deck Artistic Impressions Retrospectives Silver – R15 (#88/99)

2002-03 Upper Deck Exclusives - #276 (#35/75)

Also got a Game Day Card featuring Francis from the *very first game* of the Canes' 2002 Stanley Cup Playoff run!!

- Went by the Katrina donations stand outside, and in addition to donating a few bucks, got the last 2005-06 Canes schedule poster left!!

- Unfortunately, I lost the 2004 NHL Draft pin I got from Mean Gene, a member of the Storm Squad, at that very event. But, when I look back on all that happened before I lost the pin, I suppose giving up the pin was, in a way, equivalent exchange for my luck and fun. Wouldn't Edward and Alphonse Elric be proud...*

- If only the said luck and fun had spread to the Canes' game vs. the Florida Panthers I proceeded to watch. I didn't think the game was horrible like some had made it out to be...no, the Canes weren't great, but they were not bad either. And for cripes' sake, it's only pre-season!

And that's it...*giggles* Except, I shall make a public proposal to my favorite hockey team...oh Canes, won't you buy me a Mercedes-Benz?

Just kidding. Actually Canes, I think you ought to play the following songs at games, in general AND...

When the team scores.

http://priceisrightyodel.ytmnd.com/

When the opposing team scores.

http://unitedstatesofno.ytmnd.com/

Just kidding again. But y'know what is scary? What I suggested is far better than all of the try-out hosts AND new play-by-play announcer.

* - That reminds me, there's an ad for an air conditioning outfit here in VA/WV where a boy sounds *just like* Alphonse Elric!! I kid you not...

The Net of Stormbringer: Issue #1, Volume One

My perch may not be in Raleigh anymore, but I can *still* see all that's Canes and hockey for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles...ohhhh yeah. That is, through the wonders of Internet and Center Ice...the latter I hope to talk some folks into getting for my birthday, wink wink, nudge nudge.

Oh yes, I can see everything, not only through said Internet, but this here magic mirror...hmmmmm, I see Michael and Eric and Justin and Matt and Colin and Cory. Yes, they performed a bit of magic in scoring a goal each in the Canes' 6-0 win over the Caps in the *very first* NHL game in two years.

Not to mention how Cam Ward wasn't shabby either...posting a shutout.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/recap?gid=2005091607

Based on what I have read elsewhere, it's a shame that CanesVision does not sound to be nearly as good as the playing portion of their employers.

They now not only have a new play-by-play guy (I miss Gilliam), but also a couple of new "hosts" for the contests and factoids about the team. I did not even have to be there to experience the badness of these new "hosts", courtesy of the Canes' official board, LetsGoCanes, and Scout.com...

http://www.carolinahurricanes.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=1570

"What street corner did they pull those two clowns off from? The dorky games (trivia, find the puck) are goofy enough without someone who has no idea how to pronounce Gelinas' last name pretending they care about hockey."

http://www.letsgocanes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=114863#114863

"And for GOD'S SACK -- get the microphone away from that blond *******-- that thin, tinny baby girl voice made me want to break something. And FOR THE LOVE OF GOD-- give them a glossary of name pronunciations, please!!! AAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!!!!! "

http://mb3.scout.com/fcarolinacanesfrm1.showMessageRange?topicID=4808.topic&start=61&stop=80

"The duo (smiling guy and squeaky girl) were AWFUL! Please tell me they were a try out and not going to be the tandem used this season. He was all right but smiled so often, I found myself blinded by the glare, which only rivaled the bleeding from my ears due sqeak in her voice and her complete mangelment of Gelinas..."

That last comment makes me wonder if the segments with the frequently mentioned (and annoying) two were sponsored by Orbit gum. Sounds like they should have been...

By the way, did I mention that I miss Gilliam?

http://www.letsgocanes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=114817#114817

"you know what is absolutely spectacular and at the same time aggravating about my new season ticket seats? We couldn't hear the PA system AT ALL this evening from where we were sitting. It sounded like Charlie Brown's mother or whatever character it is that just does the mumbling "mmm hmm hemm mmm mmm mmm mm mmm". The only time its aggravating is when we score, you can't tell which players were credited... and they didn't put it on the jumbotron for you to see on every goal. Either the horn speakers directly above us are broken or they just didn't turn them on this evening because we were only getting the sound from speaker systems in other parts of the arena. However, the positive is that we didn't have to really listen to those idiots in between plays... wow... just watching them made me cringe.

The new PA announcer has GOT to GO!! Even though I couldn't hear him, I could tell from the mumbling that he was awful. I miss the old PA announcer already... and my new friends around my seats definitely concurred..."

Well, have no fear, this will have a positive ending...I'm coming down to Raleigh tomorrow! And I shall be attending the Caniac Carnival and ensuing game vs. the Florida Panthers this Sunday!! Look for the following in Section 303 and around...

http://www.missfantastic.com/stormbringer/images/stormbringer01.jpg

That's right folks, I will be in full costume. Hey, it's been a loooong time...I think I am certainly entitled.

It's Official: Ronnie Francis Retires

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=136299

I knew this day was coming, but wow...just, wow.

It's *very* safe to say that I am a mix of emotions right now...and even though I *really* don't want to cry, I am having to fight back a tear or two.

If I had to credit one person, *just one person* with getting me into the fantastic sport that is hockey, it would be Ronnie Francis. The man scored the one and only goal in the very first NHL hockey game I ever watched completely, April 28th, 2002 - Carolina Hurricanes @ the New Jersey Devils. That goal, along with the GWG at Detroit in Game One of the 2002 Stanley Cup Finals are practically tops in my book for the goals to completely mesmerize into liking, no, loving hockey.

Those goals, especially the former one mentioned, kicked off a string of events that have made me joke about AND somewhat believe that Ronnie and I may somehow share a karmic connection...warning, I'm getting ready to kind of sound like the dude in the ads for that new TV show, My Name Is Earl.

2. (1 being the goal againt NJ, of course) The very first Canes jersey I ever owned sported the same number as the very first jersey Ron ever wore for the WhalersCanes franchise. (#4, which I got on my jersey because of my being a HUGE Fantastic Four nut at the time…I never knew until sometime later it was the first number Ronnie wore as a Whaler)

3. A month after joining CanesConnect (The Canes' mailing list), I was the first one to win a prize in their 2002-2003 giveaway. The prize? The 2002 Stanley Cup Finals game day card proofs signed by Ronnie (along with Brindy and Wes).

4. I ordered a McFarland Francis figure on March 1st, 2003 (Ron’s birthday), and it arrived the morning after March 4th, when Ron tied Gordie Howe for the fifty point season record.

5. The first Canes practice I attended when Ron was on the ice was on March 9th, 2003…a year before the infamous trade to Toronto.

6. When choosing the final game to attend for the 2002-03 season, I chose the March 29th game against Buffalo, which was when they showed the Forslund Focus (a profile for certain people/events hosted by the Canes' play-by-play announcer, John Forslund) about Ronnie.

7. During that FF, Ron got up and skated around to wave at the crowd on one side. It was a 50/50 shot, and he chose the very side where I was sitting.

8. When a friend helped me get my behind the Canes bench birthday present tickets to the October 28th San Jose game, the ticket printers at the RBC Center oddly acted funky. My friend kept on having to go to the next booth until she got to the booth where they print up the fancy tickets with pictures of players and/or the Sightless Eye. Guess who was on the tickets to the absolute best game I have ever attended?

9. The aforementioned game took place on the tenth anniversary of when Ron Francis obtained his 1,000th point.

10. If you went to the gallery for that game, I managed to get my picture taken for that...guess whose picture was to the left of mine? (and oddly positioned as if he was somewhat looking at me!)

11. With a couple of exceptions, I have managed to attend most of the 2003-2004 games featuring a milestone or gift (like posters) involving Ronnie AT THE LAST MINUTE…

12. The last Canes practice I ever saw Ron at took place on February 9th, 2004…a month before you-know-what-happened.

13. In late October of 2004, a person requested at the Canes' official board that someone record some tapes of the Carolina Hurricanes Classics for her, since all they were showing in Michigan were Detroit Red Wings Classics. It turns out that person is Ron Francis' first cousin, who I help record not only Canes Classics featuring Ronnie for, but also Pittsburgh Penguins Classics too. And out that has blossomed a lovely friendship between the two of us.

14. On February 19th, the one year anniversary of my getting the Ron Francis poster promotion at a Canes game vs. the Toronto Maple Leafs, a friend who's also mentioned on #14, managed to get my very first hockey souvenir ever, a Toronto Maple Leafs 75th Anniversary puck from the Canadian Pavilion @ Disney World's Epcot Center, signed by Ronnie, and brought it back to me.

15. Off of E-Bay, I won two newspapers, the Tribute to Ron Francis published by Sault Ste. Marie Today in summer of 2002, and a Soo Greyhound special by The Sault Star in late 2004. When did they arrive? March 2nd, 2005: The one year anniversary of the final Carolina Hurricanes game at which I saw Ron Francis play...Carolina Hurricanes vs. the Columbus Blue Jackets. Oh, and by the way, the person I brought the papers from used to be a youth hockey teammate of Ron's, who helped finally get my hands on a couple of Soo Greyhound cards of Ronnie.

16. During the curing of my hockey jones through seeing youth hockey games because of the lockout, I promised a friend whose son was on the RYHA Mite Flyers that I would show off my
Ron Francis card box and collection to her son. Well, I brought the box to the Garner Ice House, and guess who was there, helping coach the Raleigh Storm girls hockey team to their final victory (In OT!!) AND undefeated season? You guessed it. Taking careful pains to make sure I approached him when he was not busy (and waving at my friend, who grinned at me when she saw what I was getting ready to do), I brought the box up to Ronnie for him to sign. What happened next was probably the most amazing thing in my career as the Canes and Ronnie's nuttiest fan: Ron talked to me the most he had ever talked to me, and really, most fans in general. He was gushing with praise over my box, saying it was the most amazing thing he had ever seen, I had put a lot of work into it, etc. Ronnie signed the box all right (smiling ear to ear when I told him all it was missing was his own signature), on top of the picture of him where he was just an inch behind me at the 2003 Skate With the Canes. After he did that and we wished each other well, everything *really* went right...it already was going right that day through Ronnie's son's team winning his final game of the season at the Raleigh RecZone AND as I mentioned, the Raleigh Storm getting their win. But also, my friend's son's Flyers barely got their win in the closest youth hockey game I ever saw, my UNC Tar Heels beat Dook in basketball, Illinois got upset by Ohio State, along with other upsets...obviously, I like those.

Anyway, the day all of that happened? March 6th, 2005: The one year anniversary of the last home game Ron played as a Carolina Hurricane...Carolina Hurricanes vs. the New Jersey Devils, which was also Chuck Kaiton Night.

17. Today is the two year anniversary of the second day of the Canes' 2003 Training Camp I attended, AND ALSO started my Francis card collection, thanks to a card and collectible seller there.

18. And even though this is *really* stretching it, a wild coincidence I recently noticed regarding Ron and I's hometowns...note the very first letters in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario (S, O). And then the very first letters in Raleigh, North Carolina (R, N)...note that they come after one another in the alphabet. Told ya it was stretching it, but *I* think it is wild, anyway.

Crazy, eh? And who knows what else may happen? As proven above, fate works in *very* mysterious ways.

Whether or not you are reading this (and/or think I am nuttier than you probably already knew I was), I wish you all the best in your retirement Mr. Francis. Quite obviously, you will be very missed in hockeydom.

And now, I have *even more incentive* to get my Ron Francis Project site revamping done.

I Love Revenge: Part Deux.

Since I didn't mention it much here...I used to work at a Hallmark store, actually two of them, in Wake Forest, NC. My tenure at those stores lasted from March-July of 2004. It was my first job, and almost every customer could not believe it was my first job. I got compliments out the wazoo, and got more new Gold Crown Customers to sign up than any other employee, including the management.

Well, that management, at least the male half (in all honesty, I've always felt a little sorry for my female boss...she was always a joy to work with AND you got to feel sorry for anyone married to someone like my male boss) fired me for, really, no good reason other than nepotism AND fearing that Wal-Mart would hurt their sales. How I figured into the equation with the latter, I have no frickin' idea...

Anyhoo, here is Exhibit A:

http://www.livejournal.com/~stormbringer10/111264.html

And now, Exhibit B:

My mother talked to a friend on the phone, and heard that the Wakefield Hallmark is closing down. And thus, the second and final tier of my revenge goes, completing said revenge.

*cackles*

The moral of this story? Don't cross my path, boys and girls.

It's Not Officially Football Season...

...until my Panthers and Steelers start their official games, which they did today.
The Steelers did awesome, both in general AND on my fantasy teams.

http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/live/NFL_20050911_TEN@PIT

And they laughed at me when I made Ben Rothelisberger and the Pittsburgh defense my first and second round picks in both of my fantasy leagues...

(Hey, I know it's only the first week...let me relish the victory while I can.)

As for the Panthers, well...

http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/live/NFL_20050911_NO@CAR

...their loss would not be such a bitter pill if it weren't for...

1. Their tendency to lose to N.O. at home getting to be a bit annoying.

and

2. My feeling like I was watching CNN/MSNBC/etc. instead of the NFL on Fox. I think the announcers talked more about Katrina than all newsstations combined. Not to mention how it would have been downright evil if the Panthers defeated N'awlins' football team and "last hope".

It's Official: I Am the Luckiest Caniac In the Entire Universe

I just got a phone call from my usual game accompanying friend, and guess what he has gotten me for my birthday?

TICKETS TO THE HOME OPENER GAME VS. THE PITTSBURGH PENGUINS!!!!

Not only is this my chance to see the Canes' very first official home game in two years, but also my chance to see Sid Crosby's second official NHL game, FINALLY see Mario Lemieux in person (both Pens/Canes games I've attended, he did not play), AND POSSIBLY my Ronnie Francis in person at at least one more NHL game, that is, if the rumors of his planning to return to Pittsburgh come true.

Oh dude, this is going to be so schweet...and the best part of it all? No, not getting to wear my full costume (though, it being the season opener AND it being the only game I'll get to come down for in October gives me a pretty darn good reason to do that ;) ), but the fact I'll be quite happy with whoever wins that particular game.

Yes, it was such a horrible cartoon...but being the big Zelda freak I am, I gotta have that DVD set.

Bob Denver Passes Away At 70

http://www.letsgocanes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4658

:*(

A lot of celebrity deaths usually don't shock me too much...but this one really affects me, since Mr. Denver lived around the Bluefield, VA area AND owned a kickbutt oldies/classic rock/80's radio station called
Little Buddy Radio. As a matter of fact, I'm listening to that station right now...and am wondering what is going to happen to it since its main owner is gone.

Unfortunately, this certainly explains why the Denver and Denver Morning Show did not come on this past weekend. :(
